Abstract:With the spread of intangible cultural heritage, the cultural value of traditional handicrafts has gradually drawn people's attention. As an old Chinese dyeing and printing technology, blue and white printed fabric has been used for a long time and is full of symbolic meanings. At present, most research on blue and white printed fabric is centered on patterns and structure Design, but there has been no study of materials. This study will use Saussure's semiotic theory as the theoretical basis, taking blue and white printed cloth as the research object, to explore the meaning construction of the material of blue and white printed cloth as a sign system in the cultural context. By using the methods of literature research, semiotic analysis, and case analysis, this study will investigate how the material of blue and white printed cloth participates in the generation of meaning as a sign and how its material semantics are understood and reconstructed in traditional and modern contexts, revealing the cultural connotations behind the material of blue and white printed cloth. This will fill the gap in the current research on intangible cultural heritage regarding the analysis of material semantics and expand the theoretical perspective of the study of intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, providing a feasible semiotic path for the contemporary expression and dissemination of traditional craftsmanship.
